Mr Controversial is a London-based mixed-media artist who raids the past to talk about the very modern mess of dating, ego and the internet. He takes vintage pulp imagery, film stills and found photographs and rebuilds them with oil paint, silkscreen and razor-sharp captions.
The result is work that feels familiar and totally new at the same time – like a mid-century romance novel that’s accidentally swallowed your Instagram feed. It’s glamorous, toxic, funny, a bit too real… and that’s exactly the point.
