Biography
David Tindle was born in Huddersfield in 1932 and studied at Coventry School of Art. He developed his career within the post-war British art world, exhibiting regularly while also teaching at institutions including Hornsey School of Art, Byam Shaw and the Royal College of Art.
His paintings are frequently built around interiors, windows, figures and quiet domestic spaces. Tindle's use of egg tempera and carefully controlled surfaces gives the work a stillness that can feel almost suspended in time.
He was elected a Royal Academician and later served as Ruskin Master of Drawing at Oxford. His work is represented in major public collections including Tate and the National Portrait Gallery.
