CB HOYO
Cuban-born, Europe-based and entirely self-taught, CB Hoyo creates text-driven works that mix humour, anxiety and sharp commentary on value, taste and authenticity.
Biography
Growing up between Cuba and the Dominican Republic before relocating to Europe, CB Hoyo built his practice outside of traditional institutions. The work feels like a running internal monologue poured straight onto canvas: handwritten slogans, fake captions, and blunt truths in bright colour.
His pieces question what makes an artwork “real”, who decides its value and how we perform our own taste — all while poking fun at the anxieties and ego that sit underneath.
Overthinking Will Fucking Kill You
One of Hoyo’s most recognisable works and a cult text piece. The phrase is both a warning and a punchline — a bright, disarming statement for anyone who lives too much in their own head.
Released in multiple editions, it’s become a global shorthand for burnout, self-awareness and the need to get out of your own way.
