Biography
CB Hoyo was born in Havana in 1995 and spent a significant part of his early life in the Dominican Republic before moving to Europe after finishing high school. Entirely self-taught, he began working professionally as an artist in 2017 after painting alongside his work as a chef.
His practice is built around language, humour and contradiction. Handwritten statements and deliberately direct phrases question what makes art authentic, how value is created and the way cultural status is performed.
The apparent simplicity is part of the point. Hoyo’s work can be funny and visually immediate while still carrying anxiety, doubt and self-awareness underneath — a tension that has become central to his voice.
