Biography
Born in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, in 1956, Simeon Stafford developed his drawing ability from an early age. His later move to Cornwall brought him into the landscape and communities that would become central to his mature paintings.
Stafford's work is immediately recognisable for its busy, celebratory scenes populated by fishermen, holidaymakers, children, animals, musicians and working communities. Rather than pursuing strict realism, he compresses places and memories into animated narratives filled with incident.
His paintings draw on lived observation while retaining a deliberately playful freedom of scale and perspective. The result is a distinctive form of contemporary British narrative painting that is both accessible and richly detailed.
