STUART McALPINE MILLER
A craft-led painter blending classical technique with contemporary iconography — layered transparencies, cinematic lighting, and cultural symbols turned into psychological portraits.
Biography
McAlpine Miller’s practice is built on craft — glazing, tonal control and meticulous finish — but his subject matter comes straight from the contemporary image-world: cinema, cartoons, luxury signalling and modern myth.
The result is a kind of visual double-exposure: familiar icons slowed down, softened, and re-framed until they read as emotional documents — desire, nostalgia, identity, and the stories we inherit.
Revelations: A Portrait of Magic
The Revelations works are built around the idea of “re-seeing” — taking characters you think you already know and pushing them into a different psychological register through colour, glaze and atmosphere.
Expect layered fields, soft-focus transitions, and that signature sense of the image surfacing slowly — like memory coming into focus.
