Mr Sly is a contemporary urban artist whose work draws upon the visual vocabulary of street art, popular culture and portraiture. His practice brings together recognisable imagery with layered surfaces and experimental mixed-media techniques.
The artist's work explores the ways in which cultural figures are represented, remembered and transformed into icons. Through bold graphic interventions, contrasting textures and expressive gestures, familiar subjects take on new visual identities.
A striking example is I Am Not a Real Person, I'm a Legend, a tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat. Combining reverse screen printing, hand-applied gilding and a custom mirror, the work brings together reflective surfaces, intricate construction and spontaneous acrylic paint marks.
The result is a distinctive dialogue between portraiture and street-art aesthetics, balancing technical craftsmanship with the raw energy associated with urban visual culture.
