Gilbert & George: 50 Years of Utopia
In this explosive homage, Endless celebrates the golden jubilee of legendary art duo Gilbert & George, reimagining them through his own irreverent visual lexicon. Titled Gilbert & George: 50 Years of Utopia, the work marks a full-circle moment in their creative friendship—one that began when Gilbert & George featured Endless’ Crotch Grab image in their 2015 Utopian Pictures exhibition in Singapore.
Here, Endless appropriates his own Crotch Grab figure—originally a subversion of 90s fashion advertising—and morphs it into the two iconic men themselves. Stark, shirtless, and standing proud in Union Jack boxer shorts (emblazoned with a symbolic ‘5’ and ‘0’), they wear Endless’ branding like a uniform.
Layered with frenetic graffiti tags and bursts of colour, the background pulsates with Endless’ signature chaos—a reverent nod to the duo’s maximalist style and punk ethos. This is not just a portrait, but a riotous celebration of two men who rewrote the rules of contemporary art, seen through the lens of a street artist who was deeply shaped by their legacy.
This piece embodies what both Endless and Gilbert & George have always championed: the breakdown of barriers between art and life, the street and the institution, the sacred and the profane.
