Soup Cans sees Banksy appropriate one of the most recognisable images in twentieth-century art, reworking the visual language of Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans through his own characteristically irreverent approach.

Replacing Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s branding with the familiar design of Tesco Value soup cans, Banksy shifts the image from American consumer culture to the everyday landscape of British supermarkets. The deliberately mundane subject becomes both a homage to Pop Art and a witty commentary on branding, mass production, consumption and the way ordinary commercial objects acquire cultural value.

The work reflects Banksy’s ability to take an established image and alter its meaning through a deceptively simple intervention. By placing the aesthetics of a budget supermarket range within the visual tradition of Pop Art, Soup Cans questions ideas of value and status both inside and outside the art world.

Executed as an offset lithograph on paper, Soup Cans is a characteristically sharp example of Banksy’s use of appropriation, humour and familiar imagery to examine contemporary consumer culture.

Presented framed and accompanied by a Pest Control Certificate of Authenticity.

Banksy’s Soup Cans is a clever and satirical reinterpretation of Andy Warhol’s iconic Campbell’s Soup Cans. This offset lithograph on paper measures 85 x 60 cm and features Banksy’s characteristic blend of wit and social commentary. By using the imagery of soup cans, Banksy critiques consumer culture, branding, and the commodification of art itself.

The artwork is framed, enhancing its display potential for collectors and enthusiasts. As with many of Banksy’s pieces, Soup Cans serves as a thought-provoking dialogue on modern society, positioning itself at the intersection of pop art and street art.
