David Bomberg

Untitled

Artist
David Bomberg

Title
Untitled

Year
1943

Medium
Oil on canvas

Dimensions
83 × 92 cm

Framed
Yes

Description
Painted in 1943, Untitled belongs to a pivotal period in David Bomberg's career, when his distinctive approach to landscape and form had evolved into a powerful synthesis of observation and expression. Rejecting the rigid geometry of his early Vorticist works, Bomberg developed a more fluid and energetic style, using bold brushwork and rich colour to capture the vitality and structure of the world around him.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in twentieth-century British art, Bomberg's work bridges the gap between Modernism and Expressionism. His paintings are celebrated for their dynamic compositions and emotional intensity, qualities that profoundly influenced a generation of British artists through both his practice and his teaching.

Executed in oil on canvas, Untitled demonstrates Bomberg's mastery of gesture, atmosphere and painterly construction. Created during the Second World War, the work reflects the confidence and maturity of his later practice, where landscape and still life became vehicles for exploring movement, light and the underlying energy of nature.

Highly sought after by collectors and institutions, works from this important period remain among the finest examples of Bomberg's enduring contribution to British Modernism, making Untitled a significant and collectable example of his mature oeuvre.
