Trevor Bell – Wreck
Artist: Trevor Bell
Artwork: Wreck
Medium: Oil on canvas
Artwork Size: 27.55 × 27.55 cm
Wreck reflects Trevor Bell’s distinctive approach to abstraction, transforming the energy and physicality of the natural world into a powerful interplay of colour, form and movement.
Bell’s long relationship with the Cornish landscape played a defining role in his practice. Its rugged coastline, shifting light and powerful relationship between land and sea provided a continual source of inspiration, which he translated into an increasingly expressive abstract language.
In Wreck, the title evokes ideas of the sea, destruction and the remnants left behind by powerful natural forces. Rather than presenting a literal scene, Bell allows shape, gesture and colour to suggest the atmosphere and emotional intensity of the subject.
Executed in oil on canvas, Wreck demonstrates Bell’s ability to distil the experience of landscape into a compact yet dynamic abstract composition.
