Small butterflies.
A bigger purpose.

The Brighton Butterfly Trail brought art, discovery and The Lily Foundation’s message to the streets of North Laine.

A butterfly you
could read by touch.

Clarke Reynolds, known as Mr Dot, created Lepi-DOT-erists for our Lily Foundation charity exhibition. The tactile butterfly uses raised Braille dots to communicate a message about mitochondrial disease and the charity’s work.

Alongside the exhibition, we hosted a free family Butterfly Trail from 27–31 July 2026. Families explored ten stops across Brighton’s North Laine, drew the butterflies on their Explorer Cards and returned to Indelible for an ice cream and a trail sticker.

It was a way to introduce the charity’s work through something families could discover and enjoy together.

The Lily Foundation charity exhibition / 2026

A gallery
with a cause.

Our charity exhibition brought together established and emerging artists in support of The Lily Foundation, with works spanning painting, print, sculpture and mixed media.

Mr Dot’s butterfly was part of a wider collection that opened conversations about mitochondrial disease and introduced visitors to the charity behind the exhibition.

Understanding the cause

What is
mitochondrial
disease?

Mitochondria help provide the energy our cells need to work. Mitochondrial disease affects that energy supply and can affect different organs and people in very different ways.

It can occur at any age and often affects babies and young children. There is currently no cure. The Lily Foundation funds research while supporting the people and families living with the condition.
