Description
Taken on one of Blur's rare days off while touring, The Way Up captures Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon sharing a moment of pure exhilaration aboard a classic wooden roller coaster. Looking back towards Dave Rowntree's camera with broad smiles, the image offers a rare glimpse of two lifelong bandmates enjoying a brief escape from the relentless demands of touring.

The photograph also carries one of the tour's more memorable stories. Damon is pictured wearing a blue bucket hat that, according to the band, was lost forever somewhere along the ride. It is a wonderfully human detail that perfectly captures the spontaneity, humour and youthful energy of Blur's early years on the road.

Rather than documenting only concerts and backstage moments, Dave Rowntree's photography preserves the experiences that happened in between—the friendships, adventures and everyday memories that shaped one of Britain's most influential bands. The Way Up is a joyful reminder that some of the most enduring moments of a tour happen away from the stage.

Printed as an archival pigment print on Somerset Satin Enhanced 330gsm, The Way Up is both an engaging documentary photograph and a piece of Britpop history. Rich in warmth, nostalgia and authenticity, it is an exceptional addition for collectors of contemporary photography, Blur memorabilia and candid images from one of the defining bands of a generation.
